What Are Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids can be a problem for either men or women. They commonly affect about half of the population. If you have ever wondered if you might have hemorrhoids, it might be wise to learn exactly what they are and how to treat them. You can learn about the symptoms to help you know if you may need to get some kind of treatment. If you know more about hemorrhoids, you will be able to understand what to be watching for and also how or where you could get help.

Piles can be another term that is commonly used to refer to hemorrhoids. They are found in blood vessels which are near the anus and rectum areas of the body. These blood vessels may have been under pressure which causes them to stretch. The pressure could be due to the additional strain put on them by bowel movements. Some have said that it is similar to having varicose veins in your legs.

There are two areas where hemorrhoids will usually occur. One of those areas is beneath the rectal area skin. This type is an internal hemorrhoid. The other area is the outer skin around the anus. There are some conditions that may be similar, but if they aren’t located in one of these two areas, they are not called hemorrhoids. These may be from a digestive disease of another type which should be treated by a physician.

If you notice any bleeding coming from the above mentioned two areas, then hemorrhoids can probably be diagnosed. The pressure on those blood vessels causes this bleeding which is one of the most well known symptoms. Other symptoms can include inconsistency of bowel movements, itching, pain or other uncomfortable symptoms. You should get these things checked out by a physician.

Several things could be the reason for getting hemorrhoids. Quick weight gains during pregnancy could often be a cause. Anyone having constipation which can cause more pressure on the rectum area may get them. If there is any additional pressure put on those areas of the body for very long, this could cause hemorrhoids in time.

The likelihood of a reoccurrence of hemorrhoids, once you have them, is a possibility. The symptoms will usually disappear on their own, or at least calm down after a few days. However, if they become more serious, they may need medication or surgery to correct them. Medicine that you can get over-the-counter will help if your symptoms aren’t too bad, at least until you can get to your physician.

Having a good understanding of what hemorrhoids are and how to treat them will help you to understand what is going on in your body. This will enable you to realize the nature of the problem and to be able to identify them and obtain the proper treatment. Hemorrhoids are very common and the relatively easy diagnosis and treatment will allow you to feel back to normal very quickly.
