Supplemental Health Insurance
For the sake of our discussion here, by supplemental health insurance, I'm not talking about the type of insurance that supplements the cost of medical care by specifically paying deductibles and co pays to doctors and hospitals, although you could use the money from your supplemental policy for that. The type of insurance I'm talking about pays the insured, you, for out of pocket expenses that come along with any illness. Most people don't think about how expensive being sick can be. There are a whole host of expenses that the sick incur that are not paid by even the best health insurance. Let's say you get cancer. According to the American Cancer Society one in two men and one in every three women in the United States will develop cancer during his or her lifetime. If you had to travel to a clinic far from your home. guess who pays? If you had good health insurance, probably your treatment at the center would be covered by your health insurance, but guess who pays for the airline tickets or and travel related expenses, you do. There are a number of companies out there who have policies that pay you, not the hospitals or doctors, cash money for a wide range of additional expenses. Recent studies have shown that 70% of people who are in debt because of health related circumstances had health insurance when they started. It would pay us all to look into supplemental health insurance.
